NORTHERN VIRGINIANS RESPOND TO SEN. DICK BLACK’S SEXIST TWEET

ASHBURN – Working mothers and fathers joined Dr. Jill McCabe, candidate for Virginia Senate District 13, in denouncing the sexist tweet Sen. Dick Black released on Twitter.
Last week, Sen. Black tweeted out the image below, suggesting Dr. McCabe lacks the experience to run for State Senate because she is, as his image depicts, merely a mother and a doctor.

“Dick Black’s out of touch, sexist tweet is an insult to all of these people here today and countless Northern Virginia families.  He has made it clear that balancing a career and a family is simply not enough to qualify one for running for public office,” said Dr. McCabe.“Insults like this are a slap in the face to the hardworking women and men of Northern Virginia who work hard to raise a family, build a career, volunteer and do other things to serve their communities. This attitude discourages people from running for elected office who could be fantastic advocates for us.”

Dr. McCabe was joined by several others, including Linda McCray, a local veteran and working mother, local businesswoman Cindy Liu and emergency physician Dr. Edward Puccio.

“Dick Black’s outdated, out-of-touch, sexist views show one thing clearly: Dick Black doesn’t respect me, doesn’t respect Dr. McCabe, and doesn’t respect any of us working women in Northern Virginia,” said Linda McCray.

“Maybe Senator Black’s out-of-touch views were fine 40 years ago, but the world has changed.  Instead of insulting women and men, Senator Black should try to learn from and respect them,” said Cindy Liu.

“When Dick Black launched his sexist, personal attack on Jill, he didn’t even understand he was attacking working women, working moms and working dads, like me,” said Puccio. “Every day, I strike the same balance like so many families across Northern Virginia – putting my family first, pursuing my career, working to be a good husband, a good father and a good employee.  And that’s real work.”

Dr. McCabe is a pediatric emergency physician and Medical Director at Inova Loudoun Hospital. She is a small business owner, a wife, a mother and an admired community leader. You can learn more about her at www.drjillmccabe.com
